I’m Amanda - a Health Coach

This business is a labor of love. I struggled with health issues from a very young age when I was first diagnosed with a dairy allergy. While I eventually “outgrew” those particular symptoms, my digestive problems persisted. In college, I was diagnosed with mercury poisoning followed by Lyme disease, which resulted in rounds of aggressive antibiotics. This course of treatment wreaked havoc on my already fragile and imbalanced system causing gastrointestinal issues – food sensitivities, pain, vomiting after meals – anxiety/depression, hormone imbalance, and even skin issues. Despite barely being able to function, conventional medicine did not provide me with any answers. I was repeatedly diagnosed with “IBS” (a label doctors give when they don’t know the cause of your digestive symptoms) and sometimes even told the symptoms were “in my head.”

Left to my own devices, I turned to my diet and lifestyle choices to begin the daunting work of healing myself. I cultivated a strong sense of self-awareness and followed my intuition to experiment with different ways of eating until I found what worked best for my body. At the same time, I found the right functional medicine doctors who were able to find and treat the root causes of my symptoms. Always mindful that health incorporates happiness as well as the absence of illness, I adopted a style of eating that supported and nourished my body with zero deprivation. Through navigating this complex journey, I discovered the sheer power of using food and lifestyle to my advantage, the connection between what you eat and how you feel, and the importance of a grateful, positive attitude. Most importantly, I learned that we all have the power to optimize our health through our everyday choices.

Wanting to share this sense of empowerment with others, I left the practice of law and dove into the world of nutrition, biohacking, functional medicine, and clean living. I eventually enrolled in the Institute of Integrative Nutrition where I earned my health coach certification. I have since received extensive functional nutrition and functional labs training under Institute for Functional Medicine-trained practitioners and experts. Even with three young children at home and working full time, I have been able to maintain my approach to health because I have learned to make myself a priority and create healthy habits that fit easily into my busy lifestyle. As a health coach, my passion is guiding clients through their own transformation, so they too can have the body, emotional state, and life they deserve.

Let’s engage in an open discussion about your primary health concerns, previous attempts to address them, any specific health-related challenges you are facing, and get clear on your goals. From there, I will recommend the most suitable health coaching package that aligns with your unique needs and objectives to ensure your success.

Complete Wellness Evaluation
Yay! You signed up for the program and are ready to jump in. During our one-hour initial evaluation, we will review comprehensive information about your medical history, lifestyle, diet, exercise habits, stress levels, and current health status to gain a holistic understanding of where you currently are versus where you want to be. Together, we will identify areas that need improvement or support, outline an action plan, and agree upon first steps. This may include dietary changes, exercise routines, stress management techniques, supplements, and lifestyle modifications tailored to your specific needs and preferences.

Testing and Labs (if indicated)
Depending on your specific health coaching package and/or the findings from the initial evaluation, we may utilize specific testing to gather more detailed information about your health. These functional tests are focused on things that your regular doctor may not check you for – things like gut health, hormonal imbalance, adrenal fatigue, metabolic dysfunction, nutrient deficiencies, and more. We will use the results of these tests to devise a more targeted and personalized approach to restoring balance to your body and reaching your goals.

Fine-Tuning, Habit-Creation, & Accountability
Throughout the coaching journey, we will meet regularly to review how your plan is going, your accomplishments, and any setbacks or challenges you encounter. Based on your progress and feedback, along with any additional tests we do, we will continue to fine-tune your plan to optimize its effectiveness. I will teach you how to create enjoyable habits to support your goals and give you the confidence to stay on track while remaining flexible and able to enjoy life. But the best part is that you will get space and freedom to express yourself fully, and to be understood and seen. You will be constantly reminded that you are enough, that you are worthy, and encouraged to keep moving toward your goals.

With your consistent effort and my consistent support, together we will help you achieve your health and wellness goals. As you approach or reach your goals, we will make sure your new healthier habits and newfound “healthstyle” are bulletproof so that you can easily transition to maintenance mode and can sustain all of the wonderful changes you’ve made without much thought or effort.

My Philosophy

We have all been conditioned to reach for convenient processed foods, to stay up late, to fuel ourselves on sugar and coffee all day, and to equate our self-worth with what we “do.” We believe that exercise requires going to the gym, that doctors know our bodies best, and that we can’t get better without prescription pills or diets. But the truth is, these assumptions are keeping us from feeling our best. We all have an innate capacity to heal and optimize ourselves when we have the right information and accountability to do so. And that is why I do what I do – because there is nothing I love more than helping you realize how to turn your own health around to become the energetic, resilient, confident, and happy person that you deserve to be.

The (4) I’s Approach

Core Pillars of My Practice.

Symptoms (including weight gain) and disease arise in the body when systems become imbalanced. Most health issues can be addressed by optimizing these systems. This is where the 4 I’s come in:

Insulin covers your body’s ability to regulate blood sugar and therefore is the key to your metabolic health as well as overall hormonal balance and prevention of chronic disease.

Gut health is essential to every aspect of your physical health and emotional well-being: it is tied to hormone balance, nutrient assimilation, weight and metabolism, immune function, inflammation, depression and anxiety, and of course bloating and any GI issues you frequently experience.

ALL disease (and dis-ease) in the body relates back to inflammation. Inflammation is a necessary system to our survival, but when it goes unchecked, things can quickly go sideways! Addressing inflammation through treating the gut as well as through dietary and lifestyle changes is crucial to ensuring you can meet and forever maintain your health goals.

Here is where things get good! You have addressed insulin, intestines, and inflammation. You feel and look better than ever. But now what? How do you go through life while sustaining that feeling? Intuition, my friend! Once you learn to tap into what your body needs and what feels “right” for you in any given moment, you have truly unlocked the ability to stay on top of your health and to lead a life in alignment with your truest desires. Talk about sustainability!
